Automation and Robotics Cameras Applications

Automation-section-long-robotics

In this day and age robots are becoming not only an important part of the automatization of the production lines, in the manufacturing industry, but in certain cases and situations even a must-have due to risk factors that would present danger for the human employees.
Being already very fast and reliable these machines sometimes face their limits if not equipped with a computer vision system that would provide them with the ability to work on more sophisticated tasks and under more flexible conditions in a complex environment.
This is especially true for the applications where they are collaborating together with their human counterparts as so called cobots.
XIMEA cameras have many characteristics that make them ideally suitable for use with robots and robotic arms.

XIMEA ADVANTAGES

  • High resolution sensors
  • Full speed potential
  • Suitable for Embedded vision systems
  • Smallest form factor

Robotic Arms

Automakers often use vision-guided robotics for simple tasks like pick-and-place, but for more diverse set of jobs they integrate vision cameras.

High speed Particle Image Velocimetry

The fields of Wind engineering, Industrial Aerodynamics and others come to rely on special cameras with short interframe time for PIV applications.
Besides the various types of robots and machines, the automation industry often needs high-speed cameras to catch extremely fast processes and based on the gathered knowledge adjusts manufacturing procedure or understands how to optimize the product overall.
3D robot vision is a novel technology that enables industrial robots to make more sophisticated judgements.
There are different tests performed for car crash safety restraints or airbag deployment, vehicle impact, flight kinematics and others.
In addition to being fast, the cameras exploited for such purposes have to occasionally offer an extremely short inter-frame time.
This was initially a prerogative of CCD based models, but with the advancement in technology and proceeding discontinuation of CCD sensors, the new CMOS and sCMOS could potentially provide a suitable replacement solution.
