Autonomous Drone and Unmanned Vehicle Cameras Applications

Autonomous and Driverless applications

Hand in hand with the overall automatization and integration of robotics into industrial applications continues the incorporation of drones and other unmanned or remotely controlled devices into the corporate as well as end customer sector.
During this process of familiarization with typically industrial systems, the focus is made on the miniaturization of the platform, low power consumption, speed of image processing and complexity of overall setup procedure which reflects on the time to market.
Besides the usual selection of high resolution Global shutter cameras, the XIMEA portfolio can offer camera models for Hyperspectral imaging which are becoming increasingly popular for the fields of Remote sensing, Environmental monitoring, Food safety, Waste recycling and many more.
XIMEA cameras, with the assistance of computer vision, aid in the development and growth of the autonomous vehicle sector by providing a higher quality comprehension of the surrounding environment.
Since new and interesting application opportunities are created constantly, XIMEA and our System integrator partners are here to help.

Precision Agriculture drones and Photogrammetry

Whether using hyperspectral imaging, multispectral or standard cameras, an important camera factor for drones is SWAP - size, weight and power.
Computer Vision XIMEA cameras have a significant benefit in agriculture since they enable farmers to speed up the process from lane to market by sorting products as well as autonomous agricultural vehicles such as tractors.

Driverless Cars and Remotely controlled vehicles

Completely removing the driver or allowing long distance control depends mainly on the latency included in the system and thus minimizing it is key.

Computer vision is being utilized to produce self-driving cars and remote-controlled devices. Autonomous driving relies on computer vision to make quick and correct judgements.

While the idea of a Driverless car is still in development the progress is constant with the help of industrial cameras from XIMEA which utilize the PCIe interface technology that allows not only fast speeds and overall high bandwidth, but brings other advantages like low latency as well.
The reason is that for the PCI Express interface based cameras there is virtually no additional latency, as the signals do not have to go through a software stack on both connections ends as is the case of most other transport protocols.
The cameras are bus master devices, so they can send the data directly to RAM memory for further real-time processing, without involving the CPU.
Moreover, when operating on Linux, especially with the NVIDIA Jetson modules (like TX2, Xavier or Nano), it is possible to use the directGPU feature capabilities to send the data directly to the GPU, completely avoiding any load on the CPU.
This makes XIMEA cameras a perfect fit where glass to glass latency is critical. The XIMEA team would be happy to talk about your setup needs.
